It is said that one quarter of the CO2 emitted from daily life comes from transportation. Would you like to contribute to CO2 reduction by eco-driving?
What is eco-drive?
Eco-driving refers to the practice of gently accelerating and stopping idling when driving in order to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and help prevent global warming.
Eco-driving you can start today
① Gently press the accelerator
When starting, gently press the accelerator and start moving (approximately 20 km/h in the first 5 seconds). You can improve your fuel efficiency by about 10% just by trying to accelerate gently on a daily basis.
② Leave plenty of space between vehicles
As the distance between vehicles becomes shorter, there are more opportunities for unnecessary acceleration and deceleration, resulting in fuel efficiency deterioration of around 2% in urban areas and 6% in suburban areas. Try to drive with little speed change depending on traffic conditions.
③ Release the accelerator early when decelerating
If you know that your vehicle will stop due to a traffic light change, take your foot off the accelerator as soon as possible. This will activate engine braking and improve fuel efficiency by about 2%. Sudden deceleration leads to deterioration of fuel efficiency.
④Use the air conditioner appropriately
Even if the temperature inside the car is set at 25°C, the same as the outside temperature, if the air conditioner is left on, fuel efficiency will worsen by about 12%. Also, even if you need air conditioning, don't let the inside of your car get too cold.
⑤Avoid traffic jams and depart with plenty of time to spare.
Before you go out, check your destination and route using road traffic information such as traffic jams and traffic regulations, as well as maps and car navigation systems. For example, if you get lost during a one-hour drive and drive for an extra 10 minutes, fuel consumption will increase by about 17%. Additionally, you can save fuel and time by checking road traffic information even after you depart to avoid traffic jams.
⑥ Remove unnecessary baggage
A car's fuel efficiency is greatly affected by the weight of the cargo. For example, if you drive with 100 kg of luggage on board, fuel efficiency will deteriorate by about 3%.
A car's fuel efficiency is also sensitive to air resistance. Remove exterior accessories such as ski carriers when not in use.
Effects of eco-driving
CO2 reduction effect
If each person engages in eco-driving that reduces the amount of gasoline used, the burden on the environment will be reduced.
Traffic accident reduction
Practice driving with plenty of time. You can be conscious of driving while paying attention to your surroundings. This will reduce traffic accidents and improve safety.
Cost reduction
When it comes to eco-driving, the most important thing to pay attention to is fuel efficiency. Engaging in eco-driving with an awareness of improving fuel efficiency will help maintain motivation. Please try to drive in a way that is kind to the environment, the economy, and people.
